Impression of Supported Employment

The Impressions of Supported Employment report was co-authored by Michael J. Evans, Manager of the Employment Unit and President of the European Union of Supported Employment, and Øystein Spjelkavik from the Norwegian Work Research Institute. The report explores the practical workings of supported employment in different countries in Europe. The aim of this study is to get an impression of how supported employment is practised, organised and understood in these countries and to use this information to gauge the progress of Norwegian supported employment. It is also intended that the study will stimulate further discussions and research on supported employment in general. The report discusses several aspects of supported employment and offers recommendations for further development.

The study is based on interviews in selected supported employment services in Ireland, Finland, Portugal, Scotland, Holland and Spain. The approach has been of a qualitative kind with a strong emphasis on descriptions by people that are directly involved with the support of disabled persons into a job in the open labour market.

European Union of Supported Employment (EUSE)

The European Union of Supported Employment has produced an Information Booklet and Quality Standards which was co-authored by Mike Evans, Manager of the EU and Vice Chair of EUSE.

Supported Employment in Norway – A National Mainstream Programme

The Work Research Institute in Oslo in partnership with the Employment Unit have produced a report on the national supported employment programme in Norway (Arbeid med bistand).

The report, in English, provides an insight into the structure of the first mainstream supported employment programme in Europe.

The aim of the report is to contribute and spread information about supported employment in Norway to other parts of the international system of vocational rehabilitation and to stimulate the on-going debate regarding supported employment.
