2009
Between 1st January and 31st December the Employment Unit assisted 261 clients, of whom 41% had been unemployed more than 3 years. 26% of these clients were under the age of 25.
Of the 261 clients, a total of 154 left the Unit for the following reasons:

A total of 107 clients continued to be assisted by the Employment Unit in their search for employment. During the course of the year, 41 clients undertook Work Experience Placement with local employers.
2008
Between 1st January and 31st December the Employment Unit assisted 285 clients, of whom 42% had been unemployed more than 3 years. 24% of these clients were under the age of 25.
Of the 294 clients, a total of 227 left the Unit for the following reasons:

A total of 85 clients continued to be assisted by the Employment Unit in their search for employment. During the course of the year, 73 clients undertook Work Experience Placement with local employers.
2007
Between 1st January and 31st December the Employment Unit assisted 294 clients, of whom 40% had been unemployed more than 3 years. 22% of these clients were under the age of 25.
Of the 294 clients, a total of 227 left the Unit for the following reasons:

A total of 67 clients continued to be assisted by the Employment Unit in their search for employment. During the course of the year, 89 clients undertook Work Experience Placement with local employers.
2006
Between 1st January and 31st December the Employment Unit assisted 343 clients, of whom 41% had been unemployed more than 3 years. 24% of these clients were under the age of 25.
Of the 343 clients, a total of 263 left the Unit for the following reasons:

A total of 80 clients continued to be assisted by the Employment Unit in their search for employment. During the course of the year, 82 clients undertook Work Experience Placement with local employers.
2005
Between 1st January and 31st December the Employment Unit assisted 354 clients, of whom 48% had been unemployed more than 3 years. 25% of these clients were under the age of 25.
Of the 354 clients, a total of 262 left the Unit for the following reasons:

Between 1st January and 31st December the Employment Unit assisted 386 clients, of whom 49% had been unemployed more than 3 years. 21% of these clients were under the age of 25.
Of the 386 clients, a total of 247 left the Unit for the following reasons:

Notes:
- "Employment" relates to Open, Supported, Voluntary and Permitted Work Outcomes.
- The main cause of "Personal Reasons" were ill health, lack of motivation or wages available no better than welfare benefits.
- Clients continually supported in their workplace through Support Workers or Wage Subsidies.
Referral Sources
To ensure that the Unit's service is available to a wide selection of the community, referrals are accepted from all sources, including Social Work, hospitals, day services, resource centres, Jobcentre Plus, colleges, training agencies, General Practitioners, care managers, voluntary/charitable organisations, NHS Trusts and self referrals. The service is available to anyone between the ages of 16 and 65 and the simple eligibility criteria are that the individual has a health problem/disability and genuinely wants to work.
Conclusion
The Employment Unit is a unique development that is making a pro-active contribution by directly supporting people with disabilities into employment. The unit adopts a totally innovative approach and has successfully piloted a range of activities to address the problem of disability and employment.
The Unit has set up partnerships with a wide range of organisations in the Tayside area, including Health Boards and Trusts, Colleges, Social Work Departments, Jobcentre Plus, disability organisations and local employers.
These partnerships have enabled the Employment Unit to address the needs not only of predominantly long term unemployed people with disabilities, but of people who have been assessed and categorised as "unemployable" due to their disability.
The additional funding that is provided by the European Social Fund has enabled the Unit to provide a seamless employment service to disabled people, many of whom have been long term unemployed.
